Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,,

Prof. dr hab. n.med. dr h.c. multi Henryk Skarżyński Twenty five years ago, when I was the first Polish surgeon performing cochlear implantation in a totally deaf patient, none of us – surgeons and researchers building the global program of treatment of deafness with cochlear implants – fully apprehended the incredible scale of development that would come to pass in the sphere of treatment of hearing disorders. At that time the sum of our ambitions was to restore the deaf to the world of sounds. Today, cochlear implant users can understand speech, not only in silence, but even in noise, more – many of them are able to appreciate music.

The Jubilee of the 25th Anniversary of Polish Cochlear Implant Programme is the occasion to recapitulate and appreciate the gigantic progress that has been made in the implant technology, ear surgery, basic science and our understanding of physiology and psychology of hearing.

I invite you to participate in the 2nd International Scientific Conference ‘Hearing Implants and Music’ in the World Hearing Center on 14 July 2016. The Conference is addressed to all people interested in the latest achievements of science and medicine in the field of cochlear implantation. Invited lecturers are the outstanding scientists and clinicians who will present you the state of knowledge related to music perception in people with hearing loss using cochlear implants.

An occasion to show to the world the exceptional musical talents of cochlear implant users will the 2nd International Music Festival for Children, Youths, and Adults with Hearing Disorders “Beats of Cochlea”, which I am organizing with the team of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing.

2nd International Scientific Conference ‘Hearing Implants and Music’ and 2nd International Music Festival for Children, Youths, and Adults with Hearing Disorders “Beats of Cochlea” are part of the celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing and the 25th Anniversary of the Deafness Treatment Program in Poland.

I cordially invite you all to take part in these extraordinary events.

Best regards,
